Cestrum nocturnum is a 4 m (13 ft) tall evergreen woody shrub with slender branches. The plant is strongly foliated and hairy, with thin downy hairs. Simple, narrow lanceolate leaves with an entire edge are 6–20 cm (2.4–7.9 in) long and 2–4.5 cm (0.79–1.77 in) wide, smooth and glossy. They are pointy or tapered in the front, and rounded or blunt at the back. The leaves are beautifully hairy at initially, but as they age, they become bald. Leaf stalks range in length from 0.8 to 2 cm.
